With Disneyworld and Universal at its center, Orlando is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the United States. For many, Orlando is the ideal location for family trips, group gatherings, and enjoying the nightlife. But there’s more to Orlando than just theme parks! There’s shopping, museums, and miles of land to enjoy Central Florida’s natural wildlife. Frogs, snakes, alligators, armadillos and manatees make up just a few of the creatures Orlando residents share their city with!
One might not expect veganism in Florida to compete with the popularity of plant-based food in states like California and New York. But you’d be surprised! Orlando consistently ranks one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the nation. So if you’re tired of having fried food and snow cones at the theme parks, and you’re in search of the best vegan food in Central Florida, check out our Orlando vegan guide. You won’t be disappointed at the sheer volume of vegan options Orlando, Florida has to offer!
Cuisine: Comfort food, Cafe
Located in Orlando’s Hourglass District. Leguminati is a 100% vegan spot that solely serves vegan crunch wraps, a large flour tortilla filled with vegan protein, vegetables, and toppings, all wrapped and toasted. When a restaurant specializes in one menu item and one menu item only, you know that they have it down to a science. This is true at Leguminati. With eight different wraps to choose from, any choice is a great one. We recommend the buffalo brunch, breaded vegan chick’n doused in house-made buffalo sauce, lettuce, tomato, and vegan ranch nestled in a carefully wrapped flour tortilla.
Market on South
Cuisine: Deli, Southern
Market on South is a quaint cafe off of South Street in Orlando’s Milk District. Here, you can find refrigerated vegan food, treats, and coffee. It’s more of a pick-up-and-go spot, than a sit-down restaurant. The casual atmosphere is inviting, and the spot is currently featuring food from Dharma Southern Kitchen and Valhalla Bakery. Vegan southern comfort food is on the menu at Dharma, with dishes like fried green tomato melt, pulled bbq jackfruit sandwiches, and mac and cheese. Our absolute favorite item on the menu is the Dharma chopped salad, a mix of baby kale, romaine, and cabbage topped with charred corn, cucumber, beets, pretzel croutons, and a homemade dressing. Valhalla Bakery specializes in vegan desserts like cookies, customizable cakes, cupcakes, and more.
Veg’n Out is ideal for vegans on a health kick. Here, you can find everything you need to give you energy and get your daily nutrients. From superfood smoothies to oatmeal bowls, almost everything on the menu can be customized according to your desired taste and diet. We love it any time we see “create your own” on a menu. We suggest creating your own smoothie bowl and taking advantage of the multitude of toppings like fresh fruit, nuts, and superfood powders. For a heartier meal, Veg’n Out offers salad and grain bowls made with ingredients such as chickpeas, coconut bacon, cajun sweet potatoes, and sriracha cauliflower. Stop by Veg’n Out and pick up a bowl, and stock up on detoxifying green juices for later.
Korgette is just one of the many mobile vendors featured at A La Cart in Orlando. A La Cart is a food lover’s paradise that features five different vendors at a time on a semi-permanent basis. Korgette is a vegan spot with flavors influenced by the owner’s travels. You can try fusion dishes like a falafel sandwich in a collard green wrap, or a vegan kafta sandwich made with house-made hummus, and cucumber salad. Stay for dessert and try the churro ice cream sandwich, a sweet creation of house-made churros with coconut ice cream, and coconut flakes, all drizzled with chocolate. Korgette has outdoor seating, and the space at A La Cart also features a bar with 15 taps for beer, cold brew, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Winter Park Biscuit Company
Don’t let the name fool you. Winter Park Biscuit Company hosts that they’re “not just biscuits.” Located inside East End Market, Winter Park Biscuit Company makes biscuits ideal with spreads like strawberry preserves, vegan honey, and apple butter. In addition, they also serve sandwiches and toasted hoagies. Order a fluffy plain biscuit, or mix it up and order a few truffle butter biscuits to complement your meal. Stop by after strolling the East End Market, and order our favorite, the Crispy Chik Sandwich, a vegan chicken cutlet with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mayo on a brioche bun.
The Madras Cafe
If you’re looking for authentic Indian cuisine, you can find it at Madras Cafe. Madras Cafe recognizes the importance of upholding ethical and cultural diets and makes accommodations to welcome a diverse group of eaters to the restaurant. The cafe is casual and ensures a relaxing dining experience with a large menu to enjoy. We recommend ordering vegetable samosas and garlic naan for the table. We highly suggest the Aloo Gobi, potato and cauliflower dusted with Indian spices, and the Masala Uthappam, Indian-style pancakes served with a variety of chutneys. Don’t forget to browse the dessert menu.
Ethos Vegan Kitchen
Cuisine: American, Comfort food
Located just outside of Orlando in Winter Park, Florida, Ethos Vegan Kitchen is a restaurant that prides itself on being casual and affordable. The feel of Ethos is comparable to being the vegan version of a traditional family-friendly diner. The menu satisfies all, even picky eaters. You can find salads, pizza, Reuben sandwiches, and hearty entrees like lasagna and vegan shepherd’s pie.
Ethos Vegan Kitchen is approachable and affordable. We suggest Ethos as a destination for longtime vegans and those that want to see what vegan food is all about.
The Vegan Hot Dog Cart
Cuisine: Hot dogs
Blink and you might miss it. The Vegan Hot Dog Cart is exactly what it sounds like; a small metal cart parked on a sidewalk in Orlando. Everything on their menu is vegan and sure to satisfy a craving for a vegan dog filled with toppings. Stop by after a night out, or make this your first stop before venturing out to other vegan restaurants in the city. The menu rotates, with new creations changing seasonally. Get a classic hot dog with all of the fixings, or try their Sloppy Southern burger and a cheesy patty melt. Check their social media to know where to find The Vegan Hot Dog Cart is in Orlando!
