The Best Vegan Restaurants in Huntington Beach

The ocean off of Huntington Beach is often crystal clear and sparkling. With some of the larger waves in Southern California and a soft, sandy ocean floor, it’s no wonder Huntington Beach is called “surf city”. Growing up here meant a life by the sea, learning a healthy respect- and a lifelong infatuation- for the ocean. With bars and restaurants lining HB’s lengthy beach path, it’s possible to simply ride your bike along the water all day long.

Despite its rather conservative roots, Orange County has surprisingly proven one of the great vegan meccas of California. Vegan food is plentiful here, and almost every city has at least a handful of exclusively vegan restaurants. Huntington Beach isn’t necessarily the focal point, but it’s not the smallest contender, either. A handful of all-vegan restaurants and plenty of vegan-friendly establishments can be found in this coastal city. “Californian” style food, featuring bowls, wraps, and Acai, is common- as is Asian-fusion food. No matter where you choose to go, you are definitely in for a delicious vegan meal! Scroll on to see our top picks for vegan restaurants in Huntington Beach.

VegiLicious

Price: $$

Cuisine: Japanese

Website: https://vegilicious-us.com/vegilicious-menu.html

It’s so difficult to say what our favorite thing about Vegilicious is: is it the fantastic food, or the fact that it’s run by the sweetest and kindest couple on the face of the Earth? Japanese immigrants Akira and Ana founded Vegilicious in 2013 with a mission to bring quality plant-based Japanese food to the public. Viewing veganism as a part of a wider solution to world hunger, animal cruelty and environmental degradation. Everyone who has ever dined with Ana and Akira knows what wonderful people they are. But last January, Ana suffered an accident which left severe third-degree burns all over her body. The vegan community rallied behind this remarkable woman, who has spent a great deal of time in physical rehabilitation. Vegilicious is now open again on a to-go only basis, while Ana continues to heal and Akira continues to care for her. The best thing we can do as a community is to support Vegilicious. And trust us, you’ll want to! We highly recommend the spicy miso ramen, and the Cali-vegetables Japanese curry. Spread the word about Vegilicious and be sure to stop by!

This downtown Huntington Beach spot is brand new, but already proving its popularity among locals. When we say “variety”, we mean it! Good Vibes serves everything from burgers and pho to tacos and acai bowls. And they somehow manage to make it all taste incredible. Our pick? The Hot Chick’n sandwich served on a brioche bun with garlic aioli sauce is simply the best. No matter the mood, Good Vibes probably has the dish you’re craving!

Loving Hut

Price: $

Cuisine: Asian variety

Website: https://lovinghut.us/huntingtonbeach/

Loving Hut is a unique chain in the sense that each individual restaurant owner creates their own menu. This all-vegan Asian variety chain can be hit or miss at some locations, but as for Huntington Beach, the food is simply incredible. The cuisine here is so obviously made with love, knowledge and a passion for nourishing and tasty food. Portion sizes are massive, and prices are cheap. It’s the perfect comfort food to-go for a rainy day or a much deserved treat. So what should you order? It’s hard to even know where to begin! You’re missing out big time if you don’t order the cream cheese wontons to start your meal. The chow mein is like no other, with the most generous helping of vegetables, flavorful, thin noodles, mouthwatering tofu, and “beef” soy protein topped with herbs and spices. The Spicy Noodle Soup really packs a punch- it’ll both warm your body and clear your sinuses. The Guru Curry Fried Rice is has some of the best depth of flavor you’ll ever have in a restaurant fried rice. Still have room? Don’t forget to snag a box of home-baked almond cookies from the front counter. The owner makes them herself! If you have any doubts about this place, get yourself down there and try it for yourself.

Vegan Galaxy

Cuisine: Californian, variety

Website: https://vegangalaxyrestaurant.com/

You may have noticed Vegan Galaxy while driving down Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach by its alien-themed logo. Overlook this place no more- it is well worth a stop! Walking into Vegan Galaxy is a visual experience- bright murals of jellyfish, sea creatures and aliens cover the walls as you walk back through this narrow restaurant. The atmosphere is funky and fun, and you’ll soon notice the creative names behind every entree. Our favorite dish by far is the Ultimate Liberation: these crispy fish-free fillet tacos topped with fresh cabbage, Pico de Gallo, cilantro, and Chipotle sauce, served on corn tortillas with lemon wedges. Portion sizes are generous, and the food is fantastic. Enjoy!

Plant Power Fast Food

Price: $$

Cuisine: American, comfort food

Website: https://www.plantpowerfastfood.com/

Less than a decade ago, Plant Power started up as one humble fast-food-alternative spot in San Diego. With compostable packaging, an all-vegan menu, and pollinator-friendly gardens in the outdoor dining area, this sustainable business was a revolution for fast food. Understandably, Plant Power skyrocketed in popularity fast. Flash forward to present day, and it’s now the most widespread vegan fast food business in the United States! Plant Power now boasts twelve locations throughout California, and even a restaurant in Las Vegas. Though technically not in Huntington Beach, OC’s Plant Power is just a few intersections away in South Fountain Valley. You can get your nostalgia on here with veganized fast-food favorites. Our recommendation? The Sno-Days are essentially just the softest and thickest ice cream treats you’ll ever try. Order a Butterfinger Sno-Day and add cookie dough. Follow up with vegan chicken tenders, classic fries, and the delectable Secret sauce. You’re welcome!

Mitasie

Cuisine: Asian Variety

Website: https://www.mitasieco.com/

Mitasie is one of the oldest vegan establishments in Huntington Beach. With an impressively expansive menu, Mitasie serves dozens of Asian variety dishes. Vietnamese and Thai make up the predominant genres of the food. And it’s all priced reasonably! The fresh spring rolls are simply incredible. The savory peanut sauce pairs perfectly with the lettuce, mint, avocado, soy-shrimp, soy-ham, vermicelli, and bean sprouts. We recommend ordering this and a nice Thai tea while you try to decide what to order for your entree!

Tama sushi is not an entirely vegan business, but they have an entire dedicated, separate vegan menu for plant-based folks to enjoy. Cool down with this bowl and head straight to the beach!

The Donuttery

Price: $$

Cuisine: Donuts

Website: https://www.thedonutteryhb.com/

The Donuttery is a perfect example of a plant-based success story. About ten years ago, this Beach Blvd donuts-and-coffee shop introduced Huntington Beach’s first vegan donuts. Word spread fast, and before you know it, lines had formed out the door! The Donuttery’s vegan collection grew fast, and now about half of their extensive donut menu is 100% plant-based. The flavors are endless- the blueberry donut takes the cake for being the most unique, while classics like the Pink cake donut and the jelly donut can fill you with nostalgia. The best part about this place is that it’s open 24 hours a day. And somehow, it always seems to have a line!
