Sedona

They say that somewhere between living and dreaming, there’s Sedona. Well, we couldn’t agree more! And like the Red Rock Country’s nickname suggests, Sedona, Arizona is one of the most colorful desert cities out there. Built into and surrounded by deep shades of red rocks, canyons and buttes, Sedona is home to over 500 artists. Located on the traditional unceded land of the Yavapai, the Tonto Apaches, the Hopi and the Navajo, Sedona is rooted in spirituality and is an artist town through and through. Many of the one-of-a-kind galleries and shops are run by or feature the works of indigenous artists, and the influence of indigenous culture has a strong presence throughout the area. Visitors come from near and far to shop, get some R&R, and dive deeper into their spiritual wellness journeys by experiencing the powerful healing energy vortexes avowedly existing in Sedona.

Sedona’s energy may inspire creativity and spirituality, but there are plenty of other ways mindfulness can be achieved here. Built into and surrounded by deep shades of red rocks, canyons and buttes, Sedona is also full of adventure and opportunities to get outside. Red isn’t the only color it’s known for, though: deep greens of the Coconino National Forest blanket Sedona and are filled with over 200 trails spanning more than 400 miles! The Verde River, winding trailside streams and banks, and magnificent twisting Juniper trees accompany walkers, hikers, runners, climbers, and bikers, and an abundance of peaceful spaces for birdwatching, picnicking, yoga… you name it! Plus, Sedona has tons of swimming holes as well as Sliding Rock State Park, one of the only naturally existing water slides in the world!

Aside from the countless activities Sedona has to offer, the food scene here is extraordinarily diverse. From fine dining restaurants to casual eateries, dessert shops, and coffee spots, Sedona has it all. The flavors here are powered significantly by locally sourced ingredients, and menus often feature earthy dishes and Arizona specialties like cactus! Whether you need something to do or somewhere to eat, Sedona truly has something for everyone. The plant-based food options are especially phenomenal in Sedona, and we would love nothing more than to share our favorite veg-friendly places with you below!

Vegan Friendly Restaurants in Sedona

Local Juicery

Price: $$

Cuisine: Smoothies, juices, salads, bowls

Website: https://www.localjuicery.com/

At Local Juicery, you can taste every color of the rainbow and feel great doing it! This spot serves some of the freshest smoothies, juices, and dishes in town and the options are seemingly endless. They have an incredible number of smoothies and raw, cold-pressed juices to choose from, and each is organic, made with fresh fruits and vegetables, and filled with superfoods. The Tropics and Legacy smoothies are particularly refreshing, and the  Strong + Radiant green smoothie is delightfully sweet, filling and delicious. And when it comes to their juices, our go-tos are the Root + Rise and the Shanti Greens. We also recommend checking out their variety of Mylks! These nut milks come in creative flavors and each batch is intentionally made with human health in mind. The Berry Mylk and Matcha Mylk are some of our favorites, and the Golden Mylk – though it has a bit of a kick – has a plethora of health benefits! Besides their wonderful drink options, Local Juicery offers lots of breakfast, lunch, and grab-and-go items too. We especially must point out that they’ve completely taken their Avocado Toast to another level: complete with vegan cashew chipotle crema, nutritional yeast, microgreens and more, this is by far our favorite of their toasts and we can’t recommend it enough. So, the next time you need a bit of internal rejuvenation – or just something bright, fruity and plant-powered – Local Juicery has your back!

Karen’s Bakeshop

Price: $-$$

Cuisine: Baked goods

Website: https://karensglutenfreeliving.com/

Karen’s Bakeshop is a must-try for Sedona’s plant-based visitors. Dine in and enjoy their freshly baked breads, scrumptious array of desserts, or perhaps something savory for breakfast or lunch, or grab a bag of their muffin or cookie mixes to make your own treats at home! While they specialize in gluten-free goodies, Karen’s Bakeshop offers an abundance of vegan options too. We especially love their vegan brownies and cupcakes (the red velvet and carrot are top-tier), and both the Dark and Double Dark Peppermint Patties are out of this world if you are a chocolate lover. We also love their Quinoa Cookie! They also have dairy-free cream cheese for their bagels, and they serve a mean vegan lasagna! And whether you are gluten free, dairy-free, vegan, or none of the above, Karen’s Bakeshop has something for everyone!

ChocolaTree

Price: $$

Cuisine: Chocolates, Southwest variety, lunch

Website: https://chocolatree.com/

Created by one gardener and one chocolatier, ChocolaTree is perhaps Sedona’s most unique oasis when it comes to eateries. In addition to their wide range of hand-made chocolates, they also have a full menu with everything from sandwiches, Southwestern classics, and pizzas to brunch foods, desserts, and some of the freshest, homemade juices, smoothies, coffees and natural sodas around. Plus, everything is naturally gluten-free and made from scratch in-house, and they never use (and don’t even own) a microwave! While everything here may not be entirely plant-based, their menu is color coded to show what is non-vegan (notably only 5 dishes on the menu!) making it super convenient for vegans to navigate. We especially love the Avocado Herb Sandwich featuring herbs grown in their on-site garden, and their Classic Sweet Pancakes or Kefir Fruit Parfait are delectable choices for something a little sweeter. You can take your order to go, but be sure to at least take a look at their charming outdoor seating area- you won’t regret it! ChocolaTree also keeps the environment at the forefront of their operations, and it really shows: 95% of their menu is made of seasonal ingredients, all of their produce is organic or wildcrafted, and all of their packaging is plastic-free and 100% recyclable. They also have the first ever raw chocolate factory in Sedona, and the cacao used to make their chocolates in their in-house chocolate shop is hand-harvested in their small cacao farms. And of course, a visit to ChocolaTree isn’t complete without trying at least a little something from their chocolate shop. We recommend their Blueberry Lavender Bar or the Coconut Love Cup, but you really can’t go wrong if something else inevitably catches your eye.

Whether you’re looking for something quick and casual or are hoping to slow down and dine in elegance, Sedona Secret Garden Café has you covered. Contrary to its name, this café is no secret when it comes to Sedona’s vegan-friendly eateries; it has even become a staple restaurant for locals and visitors alike! They are known for their charming garden patio that is open all year round (don’t worry- it’s covered and heated in the wintertime) and pet-friendly. In fact, we must specifically commend them for being so pet-friendly that they even have a small pet menu with dishes made just for your furry friends! When it comes to people food, though, we highly recommend trying the Garden Love Scramble; just order it with tofu and multigrain toast to make it vegan! The Chile Relleno and the Vegan Reuben are also stellar options worth mentioning. Besides the delicious food, they also have a full bar with wines on tap. We love the Meditation on the Rocks cocktail or the Seven Sacred Pools martini, and the Prickly Pear Lemonade is sweet, refreshing, and perfect for guests of all ages! Cuisine: Smoothie bowls, smoothies

Website: https://berrydivineacai.com/

Berry Divine Acai is berry-divine, indeed! Everything here can be veganized and their fresh, unique toppings you can choose from guarantee each person’s bowl will suit their personal taste beautifully. You can build your own smoothie or bowl and pick exactly which ingredients you’d like, or try one of their signature acai bowls which all feature their organic acai soft serve as the base. We particularly love the Red Rock Bowl, the Cleanse Bowl, and the Vortex Bowl. Oh, and pro tip: if the bowl you order doesn’t already come with coconut oil, add it as a topping to give it a ‘magic-shell’ effect. Berry Divine also has incredible smoothies that are especially convenient to take on the go. You won’t find ice in any of their smoothies either, making for the ultimate smoothie consistency. It’s hard to choose a favorite of their smoothies, but the Kona is definitely near the top of our list. Berry Divine is a must-try if you are in Sedona. Plus, they’ve taken actions like only offering bowls, containers and spoons that are compostable! So besides feeling great after eating their food, you can feel even better that by supporting Berry Divine Acai you’re doing your part to help businesses dedicated to minimizing their waste to near-zero.

Website: https://picazzos.com/

Picazzo’s is perhaps the most vegan-friendly Italian place in all of Sedona! Its vegan menu accompanying its main menu – both with gluten-free options galore – makes this spot perfect for diners of all dietary restrictions. Picazzo’s is family owned and operated, and their nutrient-rich, whole foods ingredients come together daily to create fantastically flavorful dishes that prioritize their guests’ health above all. Notably, 95% of the produce they source is organic, and they work with local farmers to source ingredients and supplies when possible. The freshness of these ingredients shines through in each of their dishes, too! When it comes to their pizzas, we especially love the Vegan Funghi Florentine and the Vegan Naples Margherita. The Vegan Picatta Pasta and the Vegan Meetball Marinara are also delectable options if you are in the mood for pasta! No matter what you order, though, we have no doubt that you’ll leave with a happy, satisfied belly.

Tamaliza Café

It’s no question that Sedona offers terrifically authentic Southwestern dishes, and Tamaliza Café is no exception. The owner of Tamaliza is also the café’s chef, and each of her recipes bursts with flavor! She grew up in Mexico and has traveled all around the country, so it’s safe to say that she knows what she’s doing in the kitchen. While Tamaliza isn’t strictly a plant-based restaurant, their vegan options are sensational! We especially recommend the vegan Enchiladas or Tamales with a glass of their hand craft Horchata, but you can’t go wrong with their vegan burritos or tacos either. Everything at Tamaliza Café is fresh and made from scratch, too! We hope you’ll stop by next time you’re in the area!

Thai Spices Natural Restaurant

Although they are not a fully vegan restaurant, the traditional Thai dishes here are prepared with vegans in mind. Most items can be made vegan; just ask! Plus, their generous portions are rich with flavor and will leave you feeling satisfyingly filled. If you stop by, be sure to try their vegan Tempeh Red Curry, Miso Vegetable Soup, or Pad Thai. To really elevate your experience here, you can also dine in their lovely garden. Bonus points if you catch their stunning view of the sunset! And if visiting Thai Spices doesn’t already entice you enough, their chef is trained in macrobiotic cooking and has flawlessly merged these principles with those of traditional Thai cuisine. Thai Spices is a favorite of locals and tourists alike, and all those who taste their dishes are incredibly lucky.
