Jersey Mike’s is a fast-casual sandwich shop known for its subs, signature sauce, and charity work, having collaborated with over 170 different charities and raising over $28 million between 2010 and 2018. From its Big Kahuna Cheese Steak to its Grilled Pastrami Reuben, the chain places a lot of emphasis on meats and cheeses, so it may not sound too promising for vegan clientele. However, armed with our Vegan Unlocked secret menu, full menu, and editor’s picks, you’ll be able to chow down and get your sandwich fix – although, hopefully, you’re a fan of veggies because that’s really all that’s on offer.

The Vegan Unlocked Research Team searched through all 37 items on the Jersey Mike’s menu and found two delectable custom creations as well as a couple of lip-smacking on-menu options.

Jersey Mike’s scores 1.3 out of 5 stars with very few vegan options on offer. So, while you can grab a scrumptious veggie sub or salad, if you’re looking for plant-based meat or lashings of vegan mayo, you’re out of luck.

This score is calculated based on the number of vegan offerings on Jersey Mike’s menu “as is” or with an easy substitution, a restaurant vegan customizability score and finally, the number of vegan options vs non-vegan options. Learn more about Vegan Unlocked Ratings.

Secret Menu

When you’re out and about and fancy a quick bite to eat, a sandwich shop might sound like the perfect, no-fuss option. But, of course, as many of you will have experienced when you’re vegan, it’s not always that straightforward. Chain menus that don’t cater specifically to vegans can often feel a bit confusing to navigate, and plant-based options aren’t always clearly marked. To make things a bit easier, we sent in our team of vegan researchers to Jersey Mike’s to scope out the vegan selection, and they hacked some secret menu items to diversify your options. Remember, you can try your hand at this, too, and partake in a little mix and match. Sometimes all this requires is requesting a separate sauce or removing the meat and cheese.

Got a craving for something slightly more straightforward? Below we’ve outlined Jersey Mike’s vegan menu items and our editors’ top picks just below this section.

Extra Veggie Sub

The Extra Veggie Sub allows you to really mix up Jersey Mike’s regular plant-based offerings. Order a #14, the veggie without the cheese, then add in jalapenos, dill pickles, cherry pepper relish, spicy brown mustard, and some sliced avocado.

Veggie Salad

Fancying something light and nourishing? Order the Veggie Salad. Get a #14, but instead of getting it in a sub, switch it up for a bowl. Ask that they hold the cheese, and then add in pickles, jalapenos, banana peppers, and some grilled portobello mushrooms. One thing to bear in mind is that in some locations, this may only be available if you’re ordering on the phone or in person.

Editor’s Picks: What Are the Top Vegan Meals at Jersey Mike’s?

Eating out when you have a gluten intolerance can sometimes feel tricky, especially when you’re vegan and the gluten-free bread options contain eggs! While this can feel a bit limiting, don’t worry, there’s still something delicious on the menu. Jersey Mike’s Veggie Salad is the best option for those with a gluten intolerance.

For when you just fancy a quick bite to keep you going, Jersey Mike’s chips are a great option as the best on-the-go bite. Why not order a side of spicy brown mustard for dipping and some jalapeno peppers for garnish – admittedly, this might make things a little bit messier.

Mushrooms are very much a staple in many vegan diets, but they’re also a bit like marmite; you either love them or hate them. If you’re in the former group, you’ll love the #64 Grilled Portabella Mushroom without Swiss, the best option for fungi fanatics.
