Founded back in 1969 in Santa Barbara County, California, Habit Burger started out as a family-owned business. A fast-casual burger joint, Habit Burger aimed to deliver West Coast flavors and fresh ingredients to locals and became beloved in the region. It even, at one point, won ‘Best Tasting Fast Food Burger,’ against some stiff competition and big national brands. It’s no wonder then that it jumped from having 26 locations in California in 2009, to 250 locations globally ten years later. Yum! Brands bought the company in 2020, but to this day, five outlets still remain under the ownership of the family, in the hands of Brent and Bruce Reichard. Despite growing in popularity over the years, and expanding its footprint significantly, Habit Burger still hasn’t expanded its vegan options, well, not by much, anyway. However, at Vegan Unlocked, we’re the experts at finding plant-based power wherever we go, and with our full menu, editor’s picks and secret menu, you can be too. We’ve even created some flavor combinations you may not have thought of, so, stay tuned.
The Vegan Unlocked Research Team analyzed all the options on the Habit Burger and found three scrumptious on-menu items and a couple of unmissable custom creations, too. So, whether you’re looking to sink your teeth into a succulent burger, or fancy getting your veg on, we’ve got your back.
Habit Burger scores 1.7 out of 5 stars with few vegan options. So, while its plant-based options are not extensive, and a little lacking in the creative department, you’ll still be able to dine on something delicious, and you’ll even find a big-name plant-based brand on the menu, too.
This score is calculated based on the number of vegan offerings on the Habit Burger menu “as is” or with an easy substitution, a restaurant vegan customizability score and finally, the number of vegan options vs non-vegan options. Learn more about Vegan Unlocked Ratings.
Secret Menu
There are no two ways about it, eating out as a vegan can come with its challenges. Many restaurants across the US still haven’t cracked the code when it comes to unlocking delicious plant-based flavors, meaning sometimes you’re just faced with a limp, lifeless and tasteless salad. While a salad can sometimes satiate, when you’re craving something a little more exciting, it’s not going to do the job. For that reason, at Vegan Unlocked, we formed a team of vegan researchers, and sent them to restaurants across the country to get inventive and come up with some custom creations. Below, you can find the delicious secret menu items they came up with. And, get ready to dig in, because they certainly delivered the vegan goods.
