Tacoma

Located 32 miles Southwest of Seattle on the southern tip of the Puget Sound, Tacoma is a small city. This seaside city has a great deal of industrial roots, from its large refinery to its bustling port. But there is so much beauty to be found here! Mount Rainier absolutely towers over Tacoma, offering breathtaking views on clear, sunny days. Tacoma’s five-mile waterfront stretch offers an opportunity to immerse in stunning views of the Sound and its southern islands. Bald eagles can often be spotted, and if you’re very lucky, you might even spot a pod of Orcas! Point Defiance State Park is a gem of Tacoma, offering miles of forest trails and a glorious stretch of beach.

So what’s it like being vegan in Tacoma? Tacoma isn’t known for its vegan options, and as far as we’re aware, only has two dedicated fully vegan restaurants. But for what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality! Tacoma may not be brimming with vegan restaurants, but there are still plenty of vegan options available. From baked goods to Thai food, the vegan options in Tacoma are absolutely delicious. Enjoy our compilation of the best vegan options in Tacoma!

Quickie Too

Price: $

Cuisine: Southern comfort food, whole foods

Website: quickietoo.com

Quickie Too is one of our favorite vegan options in Tacoma. It’s the epitome of a family-owned business. This family who runs Quickie Too used to operate a deli and market by the name of Hillside Quickie. Despite being vegan, ironically, they hardly sold any vegan options! One day, the mother decided it was time for her vegan food to shine in their community. So that the neighborhood would recognize the name of the old deli, they decided to call their restaurant Quickie Too. Quickie Too is full of delightful southern comfort-style foods and whole, healthy foods as well. Our favorite? The Crazy Jamaican Burger is fantastic. With Spicy Jerk Flavor Tofu, caramelized sweet plantain, grilled sweet onion, tomato, potato salad and vegan mayo, this dish is the winner in our book. Go see for yourself!

Viva

Price: $$$

Cuisine: Health food, whole foods, Mexican, raw and cooked, variety

Website: viva4life.com

Sometimes, it’s hard to decide whether you love or hate a restaurant with a huge menu. For vegans, it can be overwhelming- suddenly, there’s nothing you won’t eat! But for the indecisive, get ready to buckle down and make a tough decision between the countless delectable dishes at Viva. You can’t go wrong, but it’s still a lot of pressure! This incredible restaurant has it all, from Mexican food to pasta and pizza. They’ve got a variety of raw foods, too! Thousands of five-star reviews from the Tacoma vegan community prove that this place is worth visiting. For our favorite, we choose the Chick-in Fettuccine Alfredo, simply because of the rarity of this dish. Vegan Fettuccine is not an easy restaurant find, especially one that’s so well-done! This scrumptious pasta includes breaded tofu, fettuccine noodles, broccoli, grilled onion and sundried tomato simmered in a rich creamy Alfredo sauce garnished with Italian parsley and parmesan cheese- served with a slice of toasted, garlic buttered baguette. Is your stomach rumbling yet?! So pull up that menu and start making some tough decisions!

Corina Bakery

Price: $

Cuisine: coffee shop, pastries, baked goods

Website: https://corinabakery.com/

When Nina and I moved to Washington for a seasonal job, Corina’s was one of the first places we explored in our new neighborhood. We knew from the moment we set foot in this coffee shop by accident that we were doomed to spend too much money at Corina’s. Just a few blocks from our apartment, it was a recipe for disaster. Why is Corina’s so tough to resist? Well, the vegan breakfast sandwich is absolutely to die for. Complete with vegan egg, sausage, tasty cheese and hot peppers, served on a toasted everything-seasoned brioche bun, it just might be the best vegan breakfast sandwich we’ve ever tried. Serve it with a warm oatmilk lavender latte, and we’re in business. Corina’s also bakes vegan pastries, cakes and pies, and has won many awards for their vegan baked goods. They’re warm and welcoming towards remote workers, so you can feel free to set up shop for a while as long as you keep patronizing the business. From parfaits to wedding cakes, the variety here is truly incredible. It’s also a rare coffee shop that serves alcohol- so you can truly stop by at any time of day. The staff are so kind and welcoming, despite being so busy. We love Corina’s and will continue to stop by way too often!

La Ca Bar

Price: $$

Cuisine: Vietnamese, shares, cocktails

Website: https://lacabartacoma.com/

La Ca Bar is both a bar with fun, zesty cocktails and delicious Vietnamese street food. Vietnamese cuisine naturally has vegan options available, but La Car Bar makes an effort to include plenty of veggie options. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, and the restaurant is located on a street full of bars, brew houses, tasting rooms, and unique shops. We can never resist the vegetarian spring rolls, which are packed full of herbs. The vegetarian vermicelli bowl and the veggie Pho both contain some of the most delicious tofu we’ve ever tried. The marinated tofu is deeply flavorful. Enjoy!

Thai Pepper

Price: $$

Cuisine: Thai

Website: thaipepperttk.com

In our opinion, Thai Pepper is the best Thai restaurant in Tacoma. Located in downtown Tacoma, Thai Pepper is covered in beautiful murals and has a lovely outdoor seating section. Not to mention, they have a dedicated vegetarian menu! Every dish is available with fried tofu, and you can always ask to ditch the egg or fish sauce in traditionally non-vegan dishes. Our absolute favorite is the Khao Soy, a peanut-heavy noodle curry filled with delicious herbs and tasty fried tofu. You can also request a Thai Tea with coconut milk! Thai Pepper is not to be missed. Enjoy!

Infinite Soups

Price: $

Cuisine: soup

Website: https://www.facebook.com/p/Infinite-Soups-100063681664666/

Infinite Soups is exactly what it sounds like: a stop for soups, and soups alone. A small business using only family recipes, Infinite Soups rotates soups every day. Though not a vegan or vegetarian business, Infinite Soups always has at least two vegan options available. Typically, they have several! This is the best stop on a rainy Washington day- to warm your entire body with a tasty homemade soup or stew. Our favorites include the hearty, spiced Moroccan Lentil, and the creamy, zesty Coconut Corn Chowder. Gearing up for a busy week? Take your soups to-go, and enjoy!
